Digger has found his forever home, so tonight we packed up his blankets and his toy and muzzle and took him for his exciting drive to his new forever home.  As you can see he was very excited and ready to go.  He's now living with 2 wonderful people who love him very much and 4 cats.

Thus ends Digger's blog - he was one of the lucky ones to find a home so quickly.  Many are not as lucky as Digger and many never get to experience the joy of a loving home.  Continue visiting the GPA/Louisville website for blogs on all the other available dogs and coming soon the adventures of the Morehead class of Fall 2011.

Below is Digger relaxing in his new home.  I think he loves it.

Sunday July 31, 2011

Digger does occasionally rest and loves laying outside especially in the mornings when it isn't so hot.  He also continues playing with his toy and any toy.  He has learned how to get them out of the basket and we had some issues today as I put them away so I could vacuum and he kept getting them out.  Finally had to sit the basket up where he couldn't get to it for a while.  The vacuum didn't scare him at all, he just went into the next room to wait for it to stop running.  He continues being a really good boy.

We took him for a home visit last Thursday and the people have decided they want Digger to join their family!  He's getting a new forever home!  He is going to get even more spoiled there.  Stay tuned for his journey to his new forever home.

As you can see from the video clip above Digger is a very active puppy.  OK well at least for 30 seconds.  Digger has been adjusting well and learning how he fits in with the other dogs.  He isn't aggressive at all and doesn't appear to have a problem not being the leader.  He has started sleeping in the bedroom with us and the other dogs and is using his crate only occasionally in the evening.  He really loves to play with toys as you have seen from the movie clip above.  He goes through this routine of playing by himself about 2-3 times a day while the older dogs may watch or often just ignores him.  It's wonderful to be able to entertain oneself as he does.  Stay tuned for more progress reports.

Took Digger to the M&G at Petsmart in Clarksville today.  He was very scared of the shiny floors, freezing up as soon as the entrance carpet ended and going up on his tippy toes.  He basically skated to the back of the store where we were set up with feet going every which way.  When we arrived he went immediately to the padding and refused to move.  Time and pets will make a grey forget anything.  As the time progressed he started venturing out for pets which he discovered was worth the venture off of the padding.  When we got ready to leave Lois led her 2 and Digger followed behind them beautifully.  I think we still have more work on shiny floors in stores.  He's fine here on the tile and laminated floors but the lighting in stores do cast a different light on the floors.  Stay tuned as Digger progresses through fosterhood.

Thursday July 21, 2011

Today was Digger's first day at home for 8 hours with the "boyz".  We felt everything would be fine but you never know what goes on when you walk out of the house.  Amazingly we were correct at least for today.  Nothing was torn up, chewed, destroyed or bleeding when we got back home.  Life does have those happy moments!
Digger seems to be meant for home life. He is greeting me at the garage door with Dodge when I come home and fully expects equal pets and hugs which isn't hard for me to do at all.   Each day I am saying he is such a good boy - no regrets on offering to foster him.  He'll make a greyt pet for his special forever home.

Digger July 20, 2011

Digger arrived on Saturday the 16th.  He was really scared that night and we were concerned that he might have a bladder problem as he was peeing everywhere.  I think it was just nervousness.  He is a really good boy for being 3 years old.  No tearing up stuff or getting into anything he shouldn't.  As you can see he totally relaxes in his crate.
His left ear bends to the right over his head which I've never seen before - it is really cute when it bends that way.  Trying to get a good picture of it but no success yet.
When he first arrived we had to practically push him down the steps.  If he didn't have steps in his prior home, then he is the fastest learner I've seen.  As soon as Dodge went up Digger was barreling up next to him and he hasn't stopped.  He wants attention from both of us which he gets a lot of.  In four days he is settling in quite nicely, enjoying running with our dogs and playing with all the toys.

Digger needs a new home! Can you help?

"Digger" (who raced as "Diggen Ducky") retired from his career as a professional athlete a few months ago.  He was adopted straight off the track in May 2011 but now he's looking for a new home.  His owners had a change in circumstances and they can no longer keep him.  This situation is through NO fault of Digger's!

This good looking boy just turned 3 in June.  He's a dark brindle and weighs about 80 pounds.  He was neutered in May, when he had his teeth cleaned and all his shots brought up to date.  As a bonus, he's cat safe and small dog safe!

Digger had a short but impressive racing history.  He was the 2010 Tri-State WVGOBA William L. Thomas Memorial Juvenile Stake winner and a 2010 Tri-State WVGOBA Open Sprint finalist.

Digger will be living with a foster family in the Louisville area while he waits for the right family to find him.

Check out his pedigree, racing history and stats at http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=1652487

In the weeks to come, Digger's foster family will be posting updates on his progress and his personality.

Contact us through our website at www.gpalouisville.org to learn more about Digger, Jen, Wagner, the Greyhounds coming into the Foster Program at Morehead Youth Development Center (graduating November 2011) or any of their other Greyhound friends.  There you'll find our Meet & Greet schedule, details about our program and even an Adoption Application.

We hope to meet you soon.
